A leak of the Supreme Court possibly overturning Roe V. Wade has the enitre populace in outrage. Mark Levin has come out swinging against the leaker, & I agree with him. Leaks to media abound at all levels, threatening not only institutions, but individual lives as well. But leaks to the media alone are not the only problem. They are symptomatic of a far greater problem, wherein the media can severely distort the truth as has happened more recently..
When I say “media”, I mean any company acting as a news agency or as a public communication plattform such as FaceBook or Twitter. In the past, news agencies have traditionally had the so called right to not disclose its sources, while private companies have been allowed to refuse service to customers. However, more recently we have seen these entities use those privileges to suppress legitimate opinion, reporting & the truth, even promoting lies and slander.
The media must somehow be held accountable for creating false sensationalism. Government control is not the answer. Instead, the media should be subject to being sued by those harmed, including an institution like the Supreme Court. This is not to say that people should not be held accountable for using the internet to commit crime. It should be no different than holding a person accountable for using a car or gun in commiting a crime. But unfortunately the crime must first be commited before prosecuting. Nevertheless, civil action is available to victims of harrassment.
Yet another part of the problem comes with false claims of national security. “We cant tell you because of national security”. These are all ways of hiding and distorting the truth. Where “leaking” should be a crime, it should not be confused with legitimate whistle blowing. There needs to be a clear distinction between a leaker and a whistle blower.
Was Edward Snowden a leaker or a whistle blower?
And how about Juluan Asange?
Not to mention Christopher Steel.
Its a real ball of worms.
It has traditionally been up to the state to prosecute crime on behalf of the people. But when you have a state using its criminal prosecutary powers to persecute the people, it’s time to take that power away from the state.
Recently, the FBI broke into an Orange County citizens home, BECAUSE HE SENT AN EMAIL TO MERRIAM WEBSTER SAYING HE THOUGHT SOMEONE SHOULD BOMB THEM.
THAT IS AN OPINION NOT A CRIMINAL ACT.
Now I do not pretend to know all the details here, but if that is all he did, then the FBI has acted completely inappropriately as it has so often more recently.
The FBI is suppose to be a truth finder, not a truth maker.
And certainly leaks from it should be prosecuted.
And certainly it should not be acting on its own in busting down citizens doors, making it possible for the press to report it.
However, the FBI MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR LYING TO THE FISA COURT IN OBTAINING WARRANTS TO INVADE TRUMP SUPPORTERS HOMES.
If that means disbanding the FBI, then so be it.
Meanwhile, local police are to be supported. They are not the FBI. Nor is ICE the FBI.
The direction of the FBI over the last 25 years, starting with the crash of flght 800 should be seriously looked at.
It does appear the FBI has far exceeded its original purpose.
We all like Sherlock Holmes.
But when did Sherlock ever go bust down peoples doors.
And when did Sherlock ever lie.
